Chris, you totally missed the OP's point. Judging from the 4 minutes available on YouTube, the 2008 pilot was merely a bad clone of its British counterpart. As I mentioned in another thread eons ago, the final aired episode of the now-forgotten American version of "Coupling" was an original story which wasn't bad but the show had already been doomed by the handful of dopplegangers of British episodes which preceded it. The key to a successful remake is that it should simultaneously pay homage to the original while veering off in its own direction. That pilot didn't pay homage, it outright stole (offensively for fans, I might add), and it seemed to bring nothing new to the table... not to mention the cast lacked chemistry and it appears to have been devoid of the irreverent cohesion of the British series.
Like others have said, I think an American version could work if it was done properly (which the 2008 pilot wasn't). But I think it would be better suited for a network like FXX where they could push the envelope and have some breathing room rather than on basic TV (CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, CW) where it would most likely be canceled after 13 weeks.
