How old were you when you fell in love with this?

In my country this series didn't air at the time. So i got hold of it and these last months i've tried to watch it. I'm a Sci-Fi lover and people kept bringing this up. I'm up to the episode "Through the Looking Glass". And until now i must say that the show is becoming a chore to watch.

What i'm thinking is that this show probably uses some triggers that work on people a certain age and that i'm probably too old to fully enjoy these characters. Because so far it seems that this show is mostly about how interesting the characters are. Only, for me they really hold no interest. From the uncharismatic feeble "hero" to the muppet... Although the muppet is probably the best.

I want to ask how old were you when you started liking this and if there is a deeper plot to this in the series other than "running from the baddies" boring rinse and repeat i got until now.

At the moment, without hope of it improving, i think i'm going to stop watching this. Can you give me some sort of hope?

I think I was 15-16 when I first started watching.

The first season starts out a bit rough, but the final episodes of first season are when the show really starts to gel and become something great. The episode that really signals this change is "Nerve." But some important plot elements of that are set up in the previous episode, "A Bug's Life." If you've just finished "Through the Looking Glass" then that should be your next episode. I suggest you watch the next few episodes so you can finish the first season. If you don't want to continue watching after that, then this show probably isn't for you. I highly recommend it though. It is my favorite sci-fi series.

I was like 24, back when it aired for the first time more than 15 years ago. So it's not a age thing. I was hooked when the finale of season 2 aired, but I really started to like it by the end of season one, when scorpius was introduced. So you should watch episode 18 - 20. If you still don't like after that, there is no hope for you.

It's still one of may favorite tv shows and a rewatch it every few years. My other favorite Sf shows are Babylon 5, Start Trek TNG and Battlestar Galactica 2003.

Well, it seems you guys were right. The last episodes of the first season were something else. You know, it's kinda strange... It's almost like the first episodes were kinda juvenile, but then the writing took a completely different turn. Even the human stopped being such a goof and begin to sound serious. And it gave me reasons to look forward for some developments in the main storyline.

I just wished the first episodes had began stronger.

The humor and tone of Farscape is something very unique and that doesn't change, but the main plot will get more intense by season. By the end of season one, beginning of season 2 you won't be able to tell, how epic it is actually going to get, but if you enjoy Farscape even a little bit, you should give it a chance and stick with it. Believe me, it's worth it.

I'm 35 and although I did hear about the show when it was aired I never bothered to watch it until a couple of months ago. Right now I'm watching the last episodes of Season 4 and all I can say is.. wow! What a show! I must admit that the first season didn't strike a chord with me, first 10 or so episodes I watched merely to see what the fuss was all about but I was not impressed. Still I decided to finish that season hoping that the series would improve and I was right! For me, the turning point was Human reaction, from that episode on the show just kept getting better and by the end of the season I was totally hooked.

I must say that this is one of the best shows, not just of the Sci Fi ones, I have ever seen. It has wits, humour, imagination, great characterisation and acting and so many times delivers a realistic view of human race (finally we are not the best and the most honest and benevolent species there is). It succeeds in portraying personal relations with dignity and without melodramatic exaggeration so often seen on TV and in movies.

So my message to you is DON'T GIVE UP ON FARSCAPE! You're not too old for it, there is no age limit for enjoying something that is of excellent quality. It is really one of the best TV shows and it's such a pity they didn't have the chance to make that final 5th season as it had been planned.

I started watching this when it first came out and I was around 11 or 12. I remember staying up late on friday to watch it because it didnt come on till midnight for whatever reason. I was never able to stay up to date on the episodes 100%, but this is still my favorite sci fi show ever. Everyone is always raving about firefly and how the fans liked it so much that it got its own movie. Well Farscape is 1000 times better and did it all first. Don't get me wrong firefly is ok, but farscape is the better show by far and it always will be. Unfortnaly we will never have a show like farscape again because everything is CGI and made cheap and quick.

Agreed. It's just great. It has the same feel to it as Firefly, Buffy or Dollhouse. I bet Joss Whedon loves Farscape.

Mid-twenties, having missed it when it aired here in Australia originally. Caught up via reruns after my brother saw Crackers Don't Matter and said that I had to check out this crazy, amazing show!

I think Season 3 and 4 might have been ones I watched "live" after catching up. I still remember a now-deceased friend in the USA mailed me Peacekeeper Wars recorded off air on VHS very kidnly, as it was a long time before it was screened in Australia and I was desperate to see the conclusion.

I doubt those that love Farscape are due to age, but more likely the other types of shows they like and grow up with would i prove their chance of liking Farscape, and many of a similar age would possibly like the same shows. For example, a lot of Farscape fans my age or older grew up watching Doctor Who, Star Wars and - notably - Blakes 7.

I think cultural background makes a difference too: Farscape is *very* "Australian" in tone, humour and style, despite its US origin. It is equally a long way from standard US sci-fi of the era like Star Trek or even Babylon 5 (another fantastic show but so very different). For example too, compare Farscape with Lexx: very similar concept shows, but totally different in execution. Lexx is very European in its humour and tone, again making those who love it and those who hate it prone to doing so based on culture and other shows and movies they like.

Farscape is one of my favourite shows of all time. I'd rank it along side something like Breaking Bad any day. While I also love Babylon 5 and Lexx and Star Trek TNG, Farscape is just a mix of comedy and epic drama that I find a perfect combination. That does not mean its a show for everyone, though. Stargate SG-1 has a huge fandom, and I find it overall a fairly average show. Firefly was pretty good, t I consider it massively overrated. Everyone has different tastes.

This is what is so great and unique about the message boards...where else can we read about others experiences like this. This thread gave me hope to finish out the first season because YOU said it would change and grow. Nothing can replace this message board. I agree as I kept going it did pick up and gain substance...thank you!

Such a Frelling shame IMDB is closing all the boards due to a few idiots messing things up.

I was well in to my 30s when I saw Farscape the first time and it was love at first sight. Just up my alley.
My mom loves it and she's pushing 60.

I was 23 when I first watched Farscape, nearly a decade after it ended. It's been about half a decade since then and I haven't found anything I like better. This show blended comedy, action, and drama almost flawlessly as far as I'm concerned.
