Leading a rebellion against Britain? Mel Gibson is your man!
Poor England. Always a bridesmaid never the bride in these types of movies. The ironic thing is that during the time period of this movie, out of the two sides portrayed fighting, England probably committed the least amount of atrocities. Any Loyalist among the populace? Lets just say those feathers didnt stick on by themselves. Why do I remember this movie being better than it actually is? The battle scenes are cut like they ran out if time trying to make this movie PG-13. It's very tame blood wise until it isn't. Tavington's death feels like a PG13 version of the scene. Then we get cannon ball decapitations and bullet maiming. It's weird. Very odd rated R flick. John Williams, a god among men, really lays the music on thick at times. I never thought I'd say that about my favourite composer but the final battle between Tavington and Martin is scored like an Indiana Jones movie. I also seem to remember the Yorktown battle as a bigger set piece than a mere moment in a closing voiceover montage. Alas memory is a funny thing. What a terrible cliche of jingoistic hooey this movie is.
