Ikon Question Possible Spoiler

I feel ignorant for asking, but what automatic behavior of the satellite gave pause to the astronauts?
"It's painting a target on us...thinks we're a bogey" words to that effect...

I saw some lights sequence and a seal popped off into space, but how did Ikon's aspect change so that Corvin and the rest knew to back off?

Please advise. I love this movie and feel silly that I keep missing the sign.

Ok, you're ignorant...just kidding.

There was obvoiusly something that would detect a precieved 'threat' to the weapons platform and take some kind of action to 'protect' itself. A little far fetched for something of that time but...hey...it'a a movie. When they fired up the radar (for what reason I don't know) the satelite was reading it as being 'locked-on' by a guided weapon, maybe?

That's what I got from it.

In space due to lighting, your location and your targets location it's not always possible to eyeball your target. Docking usually involves using radar, so my assumption is the radar triggered a defense system. Not really too far fetched considering it was 70's technology.
