Good film but....

Yep I like this film, it's feel good, especially as I get older - adequate effects but...it could have been more .. somehow a cross between the Collins biog "carrying the fire" & the novel "marooned" comes to mind, as it is there is no real sense of urgency, no sense of danger.. it very formulaic - no thrills towards the end which actually remins me of an Allen Steele image from one of his stories

Okay I can't relate to 'Carrying the Fire' or 'Marooned' as I've never heard of them, however as far as no real sense of urgency goes I agree completely.

This film is okay, there is nothing wrong with it, but there is also nothing particularly striking about it either.

I think Cliff's more recent movies (ones he's directed) are much better. Mystic River done three years after this one was much better, not just in terms of entertainment, but story development also.

A pretty good movie of "Marooned" was made in 1969, starring Gregory Peck and Richard Crenna, with a young Gene Hackman in a supporting role.

The space scenes look very dated today, but they were very good for their time.

Marooned was for a short time considered almost prophetic, given that it was written prior to the events of Apollo 13.

I'm pretty sure if CNN announced a 70's nuclear missile platform was threatening to fall out of orbit over somewhere in the US you'd be a tad concerned.
