Actress who completed the countdown and announced liftoff

Who is the actress that delivered the line announcing liftoff?

That wasn't an actress. According to the full cast list http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0186566/fullcredits#cast that was Lisa Malone, the NASA public affairs officer who does the prelaunch commentary on a lot of the real-life shuttle launches.

I knew who she is because I'm enough of a space geek to know the names of the people who do public address for NASA (and partly b/c they made a bit of a big deal over her b/c she was the first female launch commentator). I thought her voice kind of sounded like Kathy Bates.

NASA always gets it wrong when they announce "Liftoff". It's a controlled explosion that blasts the rocket into space, not some invisible hand pulling it off the surface of the Earth. "Blast Off" is not only more dramatic, but accurate as well.
