Technically, wouldn't you have to get over 3/4 of the way before the Moon's gravity counteracted Earth's pull?

Oh blimey,
Technically - this movie is full of technically's.
Let me count the ways... err... no... let me just enjoy the 'park your brain at the door' cinema. It's not meant to be taken seriously, because there are so many incredible technical flaws in this movie it's just beyond comprehension.

wasn't it a joke told to the school kids? Not to be taken a gospel truth??
shareHe probably does mean the point where the moon's gravitational influence exceeds the earth's, relative to a body moving towards the moon through space. It's a colloquial 'halfway', perfectly suitable for a dialogue between two astronauts.
