Correct me if I'm wrong but they didn't do that in the movie! After talking about it they did some things differently in the past to change the present not the other way around.

John's character alters the past(and his present) by feeding his father information. So yes, but they did do that in this movie.

Yeah, what actions were taken in the present? Everything was done in Dennis Quaid's world, which was the past. What are you talking about?

Frank couldn't have done anything if John hadn't given him information from the present. That's the action taken in the present that affects the past.
