Fantastic..BUT MAJOR PLOT HOLE!

Loved this movie, but had to get past a rew plot holes.

This one is huge though.

Knowing that the connection might be cut at any moment, why didn't they just spend the whole night exchanging information?

Also, after the father identifies the killer, why doesn't he tell the cops?

I thought that's exactly what they did the night after the father's escape from the warehouse fire - they spent all night talking and wound up pretty exhausted...
As for the second problem, not sure, have to watch and go through all the twists again.

They discussed the father going to the police but rejected that plan because they knew it sounded too absurd. If you were a cop, would you take a tip that a man's son from the future called him and told him who the killer was?

So as it turns out, both supposed plot holes aren't one and they are easy to answer.

I was wondering myself too: the son gives his father the details about the next murder, and the father prevents the murder. Then he gives details about the following murder, and the father can't prevent that one and even is arrested for that murder. But, knowing that the connection might be cut at any moment, why didn't the son give all the details of the 10 murders right away, especially the details about the murder of his own mother?

reply

Every little thing could change the events, so they had to be careful. If he told all the info, perhaps things would change and the info would not be usefull at all.

Excellent point.

Seems like they did go at it for a few hours. I havent seen this since it was on TV in 2001 but here's how I remember it:

-the first transmission, Cavizels character realizes he's speaking to his father and tells Quaid what will happen
the second one they go at it for quite a few hours but Cavizel doesn't realize the consequences of them messing with the timeline.

You should have spent more time paying attention, less time thinking about this "plot hole." Every time the father acts on John's information, things change. John could give him all the information in the world, but it all changes as soon as Frank acts on any of it.

The information changes once the father does something that alters John's memories.

What's he supposed to tell them? My son has solved this case 30 years in the future and he's feeding me information so I can solve it now. I bet the cops would be all over that.

Frank did say "I almost don't wanna click off here. Maybe we won't get this back."

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested
