99 had a bad transitionally period when Bichoff was burning out and ultimately fired and before Russo took over. Since Russo's time in WCW ultimately became some of the worst wrestling tv ever most people forget when he initially came to WCW in his first run he did pretty well for a few months. Halloween Havoc and Mayhem 99 were two of the last really great PPV's WCW ever had. It wasn't until Souled Out 2000 that WCW really started to go to crap and never recovered.
By only watching the WCW on TBS and going back and forth between nitro and monday night football during those modern years, I thought it should have went on basically because I still can't believe Bishoff let Vince overthrow the WCW establishment. The last match that year during spring break was very ironic because the most famous wrestler actor failed to even make an appearance that night in Florida. The ending was memorable when Sting pinned the guy then he got up and paused and then he put out his hand to give a handshake. It was somewhat sad because Vince was talking about how he had both wrestling leagues in his hands and he was going to decide who he was going to let be in the WCWinvasion of the WWF. Bill Goldberg dissed him hard and you could tell there were going to be a number WCW wrestlers left out of the WWF WCW invasion. Wrestling hasn't been the same since the spring of guess which year when Vince had the WWF+WCW+XFL.
