The best of all time was Sting, I have followed that man through almost his whole career, I'd say the whole, but I wasn't alive for that part.

I've seen him through NWA, WCW, TNA, and actualy at this very moment am wearing a Sting t-shirt.

He was the best when he was blond, with the color face paint, but I'll take him any way I can get him.

Steve Borden, you rock

P.S. I'm not obsessed, I'm meerly a fan.

I can't believe no one has said Lex Luger. The Total Package was my favorite.

reply

I was also a fan of Lex Luger. I was also a fan of him during his alliance with Bagwell as Totally Buff. He was the one who beat Hogan via submission.

Vampiro was always awesome, especially hen he feuded with Sting. I always dug the gothic/dark characters like Gangrel, Undertaker, the Brood, etc. It seemed that Vampiro was the first gothic character WCW had (you can consider the black and white Sting to be one, but I personally don’t). Vampiro had an interesting wrestling style, but it was his gimmick that interested me most. His music, entrance, and pyro certainly caught my attention.

Lance Storm is arguably one of the best wrestlers WCW had ever seen. He got plenty of heat for the Team Canada angle in the US, but when he performed in Canada, the fans tore the roof off. It actually gave me goose bumps hearing the pop he got when he was up north. He certainly deserved to be a triple crown champion. Too bad WWF destroyed any integrity his character had by making him a dancing fool…ugh.

Same thing happened with Jericho. He always perked my interest and made me laugh, especially when he announced the cruiserweight battle royal at (I think) Slamboree of ‘98. ‘Notice this guy’s hat never comes off. The master of ‘Trick Track,’ the master of ‘Da Funk,’ he is Super Calo! Look at those moves ladies and gentlemen!’ His hair was always disheveled, or in the ridiculous front ponytail (something I often imitated with my hair during this time). He’d purposely walk into fans so they’d touch him; so then he’d have a reason to have Ralfus shake his finger and tell them to keep their hands off. Pure genius, especially when he gave wrestlers names like Ron Mysterio Jr., Stinko Malenko, and Quazy Juice Guererra. Too bad the WWF diluted his character as well.

Mike Awesome had very little charisma, but he’s one of the most agile big men the sport has ever seen. He’s often overlooked, but when reviewing old WCW and ECW tapes, his namesake was perfect because he was truly an awesome athlete. RIP.

Of course, there’s the flagship, Sting, who has been my favorite WCW (NWA) wrestler since I first saw him in the late 80’s. I stuck with him from the bleach-blonde flattop to the long black hair. He was always such an interesting character and high-intensity wrestler.

One man who had great matches with Sting was the Great Muta. It’s like striking gold when I find old NWA/WCW videos with Muta. It was certainly a treat whenever he’d visit the US. A great high-flyer and superb technical wrestler (who can do a better corkscrew elbow?), with a fascinating gimmick as well (face paint, green mist, etc.).

And there are other guys I always liked: Benoit, Saturn, Raven, Vader, Malenko, Douglas, Crowbar, Road Warriors, Sid, and the list goes on.

But in all seriousness folks, there’s only one legend…WCW’s greatest world champion ever (no, not David Arquette)…

I don't know why more people didnt like Luger. Sure he wasnt the most charasmatic guy behind the mic but he had imo the greatest finishing move in wrestling history. The Torture Rack.

I was and still am a big Luger fan. I wish he could have a final stint in TNA. I think Lugers promos are over criticzed: he didnt spit out catchphrases or make jokes all the time but I liked his promos because they were straight foward and beleivable. I was put in the torture rack once and it hurts like hell.

Raven: I enjoyed his feuds with Benoit, DDP and Saturn. I wanted so bad for Raven to end Goldbergs streak. He was one of the best heels in WCW at the time and thats sayning alot with guys like Hollywood Hogan and Ric Flair. I'm glad TNA did a dvd on Raven to do his career justice.

Great Muta & Jushin Thunder Liger are my personal favorite japanese wrestlers.

The Steiners: the Steiners in WCW was a dream come true, they feuded with nearly every team in WCW(Harlem heat,Nasty Boys,LOD,Outsiders) Shame they broke up, they were better off as a team.

Flyin Brian(RIP):Put on some spectacular matches with Johnny B Badd. The Hollywood Blondes were a good team but they were just as good solo.

Did you work with the guy? And yeah, I'm still a fan, and I also wish he had a final run. He didn't kill Miss Elizabeth, and secondly the guy converted, and admitted he was wrong about what he did in his life, anyone watch that episode where he was guest at Praise the Lord along with Nikita Koloff?

reply

The torture rack remark was actually when my brother and one of his friends put me in it some years back.

reply

Oh, sorry. It's still a cool move, though, I remember seeing Chris Masters perform it on Michaels.

Sting! The man is simply uber cool. Its hard to determine what it is but there was something about Sting's charisma and his style that made him a great entertainer. He was great in any role and although his heel turn didnt work out he was still entertaining in it but what bothered me was that when sting and luger were heels the faces were Flair, Hogan and Hart it was a nice twist but all three of them had screwed him over in the past and i felt it was simply payback time which is why i couldnt boo Sting during that storylines. Loved when hogan was signing autographs for kids and sting sneaks up behind him and says in a squeaky voice "can i have your autograph sir" and the minute Hogan turns around he gets decked. That was hilarious. Also the fact that he could adapt so many different styles from the colourful to the crow sting and the wolfpac.

Vampiro, great wrestler with a nice impressive style. Sadly he didnt work well on the mic but i loved the whole gothic image. His fued with sting really showed his potential and yet he was treated appallingly as he went from a fued with a star like Sting (which really should have elevated his career) to a cheap storyline where he fueded with The Demon and they had this whole he was sent from hell cheesy supernatural rubbish.
