I'll Never Get Over It

It's been over 10 years since WWF/E bought and shut down WCW, and to this day it still hurts just as much. Wrestling has never been the same since and I still genuinely believe with the death of WCW, came the death of professional wrestling as it should be.

I miss the arena's, I miss the wrestlers, I miss the commentators and I just miss the whole overall feel of WCW and what it was.

Anyone else still feel genuinely sad or angry that WCW is gone?

reply

I am not angry. Nothing lasts forever and all good things must come to an end. It is just the way things go in life.

Am I sad? Absolutely. WCW and Nitro represented some of the best moments of my life. It was my childhood and when I grew up and great moments with my family. But more importantly, it was top-notch entertainment. Definitely once-in-a-lifetime. Even with all its faults, it was absolute perfection. I have a lot of regrets in my life but one thing I have no regrets about is watching WCW. I got everything I wanted out of it and so much more.

In spite of it all, I am content to allow WCW to be in the past. I just wish WCW suffered a better ending.

reply

WCW should still be on. I miss it.

Vince never wanted to do anything with WCW.
He just wants total control.

People want something better than WWE.
Many new promotions are starting.

Will there be room for WWE, TNA, ROH, House of Hardcore, Glimmer, and the other promotions? Will wrestling go back to the territory system?

World Championship Wrestling (WCW) was an American professional wrestling promotion which existed from 1973 (owned by Jim Crockett) to 2001. In 1988, Ted Turner bought the promotion from Jim Crockett. Turner, and later Time-Warner, owned WCW until 2001, when it was purchased by its former competitor, the World Wrestling Federation (now World Wrestling Entertainment).[1][2]

Based in Atlanta, Georg...ia, it began as a regional promotion affiliated with the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), run by Jim Crockett Promotions until 1988, when Ted Turner and his Turner Broadcasting purchased the promotion, renaming it World Championship Wrestling. From 1995 onwards, WCW began to turn the corner economically, largely due to the promotion of Eric Bischoff to Executive Producer, the hiring of Hulk Hogan, the introduction of Nitro and the resultant Monday Night Wars, the nWo and other innovative concepts. However, numerous problems led to the company losing its lead. Its fall from grace has been heavily documented within the industry. The promotion was purchased in 2001 by former competitor Vince McMahon and the then-World Wrestling Federation (WWF), now World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).

Of course he did, that's why he bought it.

He just wants total control.

Total control by buying out one wrestling company that was on its deathbed?

If anything, Vince was trying to save WCW by replacing it with SmackDown on UPN; a deal that didn't go through.

Vince never did anything with WCW.

If he really wanted to do something he would have started a new WCW show like he did with ECW. Vince did a horrible job with ECW.

Vince can't run any other company but WWE, and even the WWE is losing viewers.
Which is good for wrestling. Vince has to go.

The rights to ECW and WCW have to be sold to people who will start new shows.

I don't miss WCW. It was terrible. The average show would consist of 20% wrestling and that 20% was dreadful.

I do however, miss the Monday Night Wars and the competition that forced WWE to better themselves.

reply

Yes I badly miss WCW. Both Monday Night War shows were good and perhaps Raw was slightly better. But if it wasnt for ECW and WCW, McMahon wouldnt have been forced to change his style which inevitably made the show so much better.

reply

WCW was the best promotion and Nitro was the best wrestling program ever. That bastard Vince shut it down but to be honest it wasn't just WCW that died it was wrestling, it's never been the same since. Just look at WWE and TNA now their awful.

reply

I definitely missed WCW. I loved watching both. They both had different styles, strengths, and attributes I liked.

I think Vince buying out his competition was a terrible idea. It started out ok, but you knew it wasn't going good when fairly high up guys from WCW were completely misused (like DDP for example).

With 30 promotions under the NWA banner, I feel like they could've done something to stop him but they didn't.
