Question about Bischoff

Bischoff said that when he tried to buy WCW, they offered him the trademarks, ring, licenses etc, but didnt want to give him the programming. My question is, why didnt Bischoff buy WCW and sell it to another network. I assume there would be at least one channel who would have been interested in showing Monday Nitro.

Because Bischoff himself was not going to buy WCW. He had an investment team made up of a few people that were interested in purchasing it as a group. Without a TV spot, however, WCW lost a TON of its value and would be a much riskier investment. Sure, Bishoff COULD HAVE tried to find another deal, but given what happened with ECW and the overall stance by many networks that wrestling was too low brow, it would have been extremely difficult for him to have found a viable alternative to TBS.

To add to what the other poster said, there are 2 other reasons. WCW ended up being sold to Vince McMahon for 45 million to 48 million less than what Bischoff was willing to pay for it. It's possible that was done intentionally. Kevin Sullivan Rick Steiner, Kanyon, and Kevin Nash all referenced Brad Segal being friends with Vince McMahon, possibly helped sabotage WCW, and helped McMahon get a good deal on it.

Also Bischoff was good in terms of business and advertising, yet lacked foresight when it came to wrestling. He probably overlooked how valuable WCW was without a television deal. DVDs still could have been made, pay per views could have been done, house shows could still run if an immediate television deal wasn't in place.

Reboot, restart or re-imagining is another word for remake
