Scene Inspired by Cassavetes' Opening Night?*Spoilers*

There are remarkable similarities between the scene in which Manuela's son is killed by a car in the rain while running after the actress he idolizes and the opening scene in Cassavetes' "Opening Night." I'm assuming Almdovar was inspired by the Cassavetes film. Does anyone know if this is true?

In the dedication in the closing credits, he cites Gena Rowlands specifically, and indeed the scene was very close to that of Opening Night. I'm certain this was a deliberate homage to one of my very favorite films.

I noticed this also, and have no doubt it was inspired by "Opening Night". The mention of Gena Rolands at the end of the film just reinforced this.
