esteban's death

this was one of the most heart wrenching scenes that i have ever seen on screen... as the movie starts of with such an ingenious conversation between esteban and manuela... and u start to like his character and the car accident comes out like a bolt out of clear sky... i was very much shocked by that sequence and the sequences tat follow it...
a few other heart wrenchin sequences were from
dancer in the dark
grave of the fireflies
and big fish( i cried for a different reason altogether)..
i like to watch such movies..
wat abt u people?any other suggestions??

If you like Dancer in the Dark then watch Breaking the Waves (also by Lars von Trier) which is the most emotionally devestating film I have ever seen and features one of the greatest performances in film history, from Emily Watson.

Also watch Cria Cuervos which is a Spanish masterpiece directed by Carlos Sauras. Strozsek, directed by Werner Herzog, is also very emotional as are several Ingmar Bergman films such as Cries and Whispers, Fanny and Alexander, Autumn Sonata, Through a Glass Darkly, Scenes from a Marriage and his final film, Saraband. Almodovar has a few films that really get to me emotionally, in particular, Volver, Talk to Her and All About My Mother. The Passion of Joan of Arc, a silent film by Carl Dreyer, is also extremely affecting.

Some other emotionally charged films I have seen:
Nights of Cabiria (Fellini)
To Live (Kurosawa)
The Bad Sleep Well (Kurosawa)
Spirit of the Beehive (Erice)
REC (a Spanish horror film that is emotionally-charged, mostly fear, but has that "effect" that you might enjoy, in the style of Blair Witch Project)

just about how shocking it was (like a bolt out of the sky) I remember when he ran in front of the car before the play and thinking "how weird and kinda dumb it would be if he died this soon" and then he did but it made the movie brilliant.

I thought it was very interesting toward the end of the movie, when Manuela saw Lola at the funeral, Manuela was almost hit by a car after she walked away from Lola.
