Huma?

ok so i've watched this film a few times and one line i didn't quite understand is when huma says she started smoking because she wanted to be like bette davis, by 18 she was smoking like a chimney so she called herself huma.
understanding spanish is not my strong point, is there something in the translation i'm not getting. what does huma mean?

Also, "Humo" means smoke ('Fumar' would be the action of smoking), so she changed the last vocal for an "a", so it would be/sound as a woman's name (I mean, Ricardo is a man's name, Ricarda a woman's).

I don't know if I make any sense, haha.
Sorry for my english.
