what is cut from the us version???

according to the "alternate versions" section it says 3 minutes were cut from the spanish version... does anyone know what it was? i'd appreciate the help so i know what im missing...

reply

I wouldn't be sure as I haven't seen the US version, but i'd guess the bit where there are loads of prostitutes walking around topless in the city.

reply

I'd agree with that coz i watched it in Film Studies today (UK Version) and never saw that scene

reply

really? It's an important scene, when the taxi is driving Manuela through "the fields" and there's prostitutes/transsexuals everywhere blowing bikers and baring breasts... it's just before she finds Agrado.

The scene in the taxi where they drive through the fields includes the aforementioned nudity in the US version- that is 100% certain as I own a copy... So the missing 3 minutes must be something else.

Hi Emileka,
I'm French so I know the original version, but unfortunately I don't know what censored version you saw. I can say that unlike many other Almodovar films, there aren't any sex or violent scenes in this movie that could have been deleted. There is a lot of swearing of course such as "poya" (dick), "hija puta" (I won't translate that, I don't want to be censored as well) but I think alternative dubbing or subtitles must have changed that.

No, the US version has that bit, too.

http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=1787 specifies that there are no cuts in any of the various releases. The difference in timing is almost surely from a user comparing the Spanish R2 PAL run time to the US R1 NTSC timing, without considering the slight difference in playback speeds.

Remember that nearly all of this website is user-generated, not official. Also, the "Alternate versions" section says only "Three minutes are cut from the US version. The total running time of the Spanish version is 104 minutes", without providing any source. Nearly all such sections for other films are properly sourced. Whoever posted this was wrong.
