Some Thoughts on WWE

First things first: Which show is doing better since the new brand split?
I vote Smackdown, and it's not even close.

Now, my explanation why:

There are reports that Vinnie Mac is disappointed with the current product of the flagship program RAW, compared to SmackDown, which by majority opinion, has been 'killing it' since the new brand split. AJ Styles finally is in WWE, making some serious noise. The dude even got greenlit to beat Cena *clean*.

I skimmed through "Clash of Champions." Kevin Owens is good, and Jericho still has it, but RAW definitely has some issues right now. People want to see Bayley and Sasha Banks on top. Charlotte's had a good run, but c'mon now. And essentially robbing the audience of an actual match between Seth Rollins and Owens is a bad, bad move. Raw is very scattershot right now. And people still don't like Roman Reigns. I dig him, but I dunno if he can hack it being booed for years like Cena managed to do. He deserves better than Rusev, though.

SmackDown, however, put together a solid show for No Mercy at Sacramento's new arena for the Kings, and the intro makes every match sound exciting. Almost arrogance by having the main event on first! With Cena gunning for his 16th historic championship, Dean Ambrose being hugely popular, and AJ as a quality bad guy with the skills to back it up, it's not a bad idea. You also got The Miz and Dolph Ziggler making the IC Title mean something again. Becky Lynch gets a run, and even Alexa Bliss is able to shine.

I also already know my boy Luke Harper made his return after a nasty injury, and Bray Wyatt *finally* got a decent win by beating Orton. The last person I think he beat in a feud was Dean Ambrose last year.

So, long story short, SmackDown's got it going on. Kudos to whoever's writing it, and I dunno who they're paying to write Raw at the mo', but I hope they get it together.

Former NXT head writer Ryan Ward is writing for Smackdown now.

I've been tracking Smackdown a lot more closely than Raw, but it's almost at the point where I don't even really care what's happening with Raw. I'm sure Stephanie is still the focal point and demeaning everyone around her.

I think both shows are just fine at the moment. Raw is way too long and SmackDown has too little depth on the roster, so they both produce okay/decent shows most weeks that have their pluses and minuses. FWIW, I think the first Raw after the draft was great and the first SmackDown after the draft was terrible, but since then they've both settled in at that particular level of quality I mentioned earlier, they're just okay/decent most weeks.
