Did anyone else notice how the movies seemed to parallel on a similar plane of spontaneity, weird comical situations/characters and then end on a very satisfying, sensible resolve?

Interesting comparison; both The Dude and Tripp are kinda losers, living in the past and gettin high. But they're incredibly likeable losers. Lebowski is more surreal than WB but both are about absurd situations piling up around someone who is not really in a position to deal with a kidnapping and nihilists / a dead dog, a divorce and a stolen piece of prized memoribilia.
I was wondering if anybody else had thought this. Grady Tripp and the Dude could be long lost brothers. They both get high. The both walk around in a bathrobe for part of their films. They both make babies with their respective leading ladies. They both have periods of unconciousness(Tripp has black outs and The Dude is first knocked out by a punch, then slipped a mickey).
The similarities are abounding: -The Dude and Grady smoke weed incessantly -Their cars (containing something of value) are stolen -The phrase, "Goodnight Sweet Prince" is used in both films -They both wear bath robes -Both are mixed up in some way with "The Privileged" members of society
I do really wonder if Joel or Ethan Cohen had any bearing on this movie's script, or if either were inspired by the book, especially seeing Frances McDormand is married to Joel.

I can see why you'd think that. I agree. The male leads are pretty similar, the movie does have a fun, road-trip/mystery feel to it, and the end does tie up a lot of loose ends. good comparison!
