i know tobey maguire and robert downey jr are a gay couple in the movie, but do they kiss or do anything at all?

They don't show them doing anything, but it is implied that they spend the night together.

Earlyish in the film there is a shot of Downey with his hand in a drunken-and-drugged Maguire's lap under the table at a bar, but it is so offhand and quick that unless you're looking for it you'll miss it.
They do indeed spend the next night in bed together but all we see of it is them laughing in the bedroom on Saturday night and then naked in bed the next morning but not even touching.
"Please! You're not at home!"
I don't mean to nitpick but James appears to still have his pants on in the morning. Whether or not they came off overnight is ambiguous. :)
To the OP: I don't think I would call them a "couple"... they meet near the beginning and have a mostly-mutual interest/flirtation throughout the film.
I actually don't think James and Crabtree did the dirty deed...yet. Crabs was loosening James up since he was able to get his book published. Once he gets him to New York I'm sure was going to shred him.

In the book James and Crabtree did have sex that night. When Grady comes to get James because the police officer is there, James is naked as he walks across the room to get his clothes. Grady remarks that he thinks it's odd that it's James "First time as a lover of men" and he apparently has no hangups about it.
No, but what is funny is that at the beginning of Tropic Thunder, in the "trailer" to character Kurt Lazarus' new movie, Satan's Alley, Robert Downey Jr. and Tobey Maguire are reunited in a forbidden homosexual relationship in a monastery. Nice touch.
