reply

Do you really get to go out and do ridiculous stuff on Snow Days? We only get hurricane days in Florida, and you can't have too much fun in those...

reply

well it depends i havent seen Snow Day in a while so if u are talking about what they did then im not sure but usually on snow days u can still go out and do things but some times like yesterday its kinda hard to get around cause yesterday u could bearly even see, it was really windy, really icy, and really cold and we actually had thunder and lightning too but usually u can go out and do what you want (it also depends how much snow u get cause i think it was either last year or the year before we got like 48 in (or some where around ther).

Same thing in the NYC metro, had a snow day the same night the movie was on....

And i don't have to make it up........

Funny thing is John Bolaris was kinda like Chevy Chase in this movie. Bolaris is the local forecaster for CBS. Pretty much all of the Mets (weathermen) in NYC were calling for a change over to rain, but he saw last minute data (just like Chase), and then upped his accumulation totals. He was right on......

I liked Chase's role in this movie, wasn't a big fan of the plowman stuff.

Do you guys get a lot of snow days in NYC?

reply

we get an ICE day in Texas, it's really nice, makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

reply

i live in NYC. and no we usually NEVER get snow days. i went to public school all my life and i had to walk to school even when there was a foot of snow out. They never closed schools.
But today is my first snow day! I went to this movie board because I remembered how much I used to watch this movie and wished i got snow days. lol. I go to a Catholic High School now, and they think differently about snow days. lol. =)

Yea, where I live (Virginia) we'll get snow days for like 1 inch of snow. It's dumb but at least we're out. whenever it's a snow day you can still see dirt and stuff (except a couple times we've had blizzards, but they prolly weren't that bad, too young to remember it though). But kids do walk around and hang out in the snow. Me and my brothers used to go sledding a lot. A lot of the time I've spent in snow was sledding. I've tried to make igloos but they're really hard and especially when we don't have all that much snow most years. Sometimes we'll get more though.

Snow Day today for me again.

Well, 20 years ago yesterday was a SNOW DAY of a different sort for me, and it changed me forever (as far as snow is concerned). I was at Montreat-Anderson College in Montreat, NC (mountains near Asheville) for my freshman year of college in 1986-87, and on Wednesday night, January 21, 1987 everyone knew it was going to snow. I then woke up in my dormitory room on the morning of Thursday, January 22, 1987 and it was covered outside with over a foot of snow. I went to all my classes that day, and the next, as this college cancelled nothing, but I had planned to come home that Saturday, January 24 and return Monday January 26 so I could watch the Super Bowl at home on Sunday, January 25 (Denver vs. New York Giants from Pasadena). That Thursday morning I called home (in York County, SC) about this and my mother said it had snowed heavily there as well and all school had been cancelled. It then seemed to be melting and the roads were being cleared on Friday morning (Jan. 23), and I called her then, but she said she could not come and get me, there was still too much snow. I then began watching the Super Bowl pregame show about 4:00 on Sunday afternoon, January 25 in my dorm room, and looked out and it was snowing again heavily (it had half melted by Sunday). There was then over a foot of snow the next morning (Monday, Jan. 26). It did finally melt by the following Thursday (Jan. 29), and I came home that weekend, but I've since known that this was the definite turning point for me as far as snow went. That is, I always loved it in the 1970s and early-mid 1980s as a child and teenager, and just like the kids in this movie I hoped it would snow several times every winter, and when it did Iloved to get out of school and would get out in it, play in it, and eat it and drink hot chocolate. But after these snows I never liked it again, and every winter from then on hoped it never would at all. I possibly would have felt that way soon anyway, but these snows did this for me right then. And their 20th anniversary is this week, which I am thinking about and will observe. There was a third big snow in Montreatthat winter, on Tuesday, February 17, 1987, but then I only got a few snows after these in the following winters in York County and Charlotte, NC, which I was grateful for, and last month moved to Miami, FL, where I'm pretty sure I won't have to worry about this
