Maybe the biggest "guilty pleasure" movie of all-time.....

I know the film is ludicrous and the plot is ludicrous but I don't care. When I come across this on tv, I always watch through to the end. It's so pulpy and overly dramatic but you really do come to hate Sinise, Charlize, and their gang.

Great, mindless fun.

Yeah, I agree I can always watch this movie whenever I pull out the director's cut dvd. I usually watch it once a year after Christmas is over. It accompanies that dull-empty feeling of all the presents are opened, you just ate your big turkey and gravy dinner and now you're curled up with your wife on the couch in front of a roaring fire while the kids are all quietly playing with their new toys at different corners of the house. There's a lazy snow storm with huge snowflakes that listlessly float to the ground.

I've never seen the Directors Cut. How is it different from the original theatrical version?

They cut like 20 minutes for the theater release. I remember being unimpressed when I saw the that release, years ago. Just watched the director's cut & it is definitely a better movie.

Adds a lot of character development. Rudy & Nick seem more like friends than partners in crime. In the planning process, Rudy seems shrewd & more in control. There's an additional scene with Dennis Farina to establish his motivation.

On a superficial level, the violence was more graphic & I saw too much of of Ben Affleck's ass.

It really does capture the feel of a brutal, upper Midwest winter. More so than even Fargo.
