dance scene

when they all start dancing to the golden years by david bowie is it just me or does it look like heath ledger is singing along in the beginning.

reply

I think he was counting... since he learned to dance that afternoon. and maybe trying to remember the random steps he pulled out of his a$$

"Happiness is a warm gun." The Beatles
"No touching guns." River ~ Firefly

reply

I felt like he began counting and then sang along later.

reply

Yeah, it looked like he was singing along.

reply

yes, I agree, and he really seemed to be "into" the music.

reply

I heard Golden Years was Heath's favorite David Bowie song. He's probably sing it along because he likes it.

reply

if you watch his mouth closely when the word "angel" is sung, he mouths it

Best scene in the movie. I didn't like the song (and I'm a huge Bowie fan) until I saw the movie.

I really love this movie and I have watched it many times, but I still think the whole dance scene, and "Golden Years" by DBowie is soooooo STUPID...it just doesn't go with the rest of the movie...Heath (bless his soul) was just a terrible dancer...and the whole idea was just toooo campy for me...I make fun of them everytime I watch it. Yes, he sings along.

I saw this movie for the first time today and I loved every single thing in it and watching the extras helps one to totally understand ther eaosning for modern music put into the movie and it makes sense. I loved the opening with We Will Rock you and was chanting along with it. One reviewer on here explains that it was not supposed to be a time piece to follow anything historically but about the people so puting in todays elements was a nice blend and easy to relate to the movie. I was so touched and moved by it and the dancing scene I so enjoyed.

I liked the dance scene.

I thought Heath did a really good job at dancing too. I mean, I wish I could dance like that.

reply

Dance scene is the best! Totally fun and keeps the movie light. (and who cares if Heath's not a good dancer, his character wasn't supposed to be either!) It's not out of place at all if you consider what the director was going for as an overall image.

"I'm your friend too, Mr. Todd. If you only knew, Mr. Todd ..."

reply

Most people with the right instructor can learn to dance...

I wish this film was more in tune with letting people sing/play the modern songs in middle ages speak.

Until the dance turned into a rave, it wasn't too bad.

I liked the dance scene. When A Knight's Tale came out I was working at a movie theater, and I always snuck in to watch that particular scene.

reply

They're trying to connect it with the modern age, like "we will rock you" in the beginning, it's trying to match how we would hear the music and they would. Ye, I think he might have been singing along, I don't blame him :D

reply

"...it just doesn't go with the rest of the movie..."

And I suppose the footstomping and chanting from "We Will Rock You", or doing the 'wave' in the grandstand did?

I read interviews Heath gave that he admired Gene Kelly so he was really into musicals and dancing. If you watch his character's wedding party scene in the Patriot, he looks like he is enjoying dancing in that too.

I think Heath also mentioned, that he had to teach a bunch of classmates from his all-boys school to learn to dance for a competition.

reply

Yeah, it was for the Rock Eisteddford; he choreographed a dance for it and they won! ... in their state LOL. I'd give anything to watch it. And what bums me even more about his death is that we'll never get to see him in a musical, le sigh.

I love the dance scene in this movie! I can understand why some others do, but IDK, I love it.

Yeah, it was for the Rock Eisteddford;
I was intrigued enough to look it up and it's spelled Rock Eisteddfod. I only make the correction so that someone else can find it if they want to check it out. I know a little about Welsh culture and the word is Welsh. It's a competition of dance, music, singing and poetry with the winning poet getting seated as Bard.

He sang in 10 Things I Hate About You, didn't he? I've only seen that once on tv.

reply

My bad, it's a weird word LOL. Yeah the Rock Eisteddfod competition is a popular thing here in Australia for High Schoolers. I'm pretty sure my brother was in it one year; I was in something similar but not exactly the RE. It's a lot of fun! ^^

I wonder how similar it is to the Welsh Eisteddfod (btw... I would have had to look up that word to spell it right. I definitely wouldn't have been able to spell it from memory!) Do you know?

We did a little mini-Eisteddfod here in my town when we held a Celtic fair. It was interesting to think about. It tells you how much the Welsh love language and poetry to place such importance on the winner/Bard.

There's a nice little Welsh film about someone winning the Eisteddfod posthumously. Hedd Wyn: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104403/

reply

It's just a performance combining all three performing arts subjects: dance, drama and music. I'm not sure if they need original music in the Rock Eisteddfod; the one I was in didn't.

I guess you could call it a high school musical LOL but with no original music. I think I remember reading somewhere that Heath choreographed something like a male fashion show... O.O LOL idk. It sounded odd, but then again, he went to an all-boy's school so...
