why imdb ratings are not to be trusted

This movie gets 6.5, but "no country for old men" gets 8.2.
Sigh, I think I need another movie site for reviews. My taste is no close to imdb users, that's for sure.

The ratings are just a poll. Taste differs - just look at the results of any election. The depressing thing is that there is a lot of trolling going on over recent popular movies. The comment forums for a lot of these movies are just ruined. But the ratings for the old classics are more reliable.

I admit I found No Country for Old Men to be so crushingly depressing that I could only with difficulty sit it out. But the acting is undeniably excellent.

I've been visiting www.rottentomatoes.com lately, but the rating there (48%) is even lower.

Look at The Dark Knight's rating.

I really like that film and think it would qualify as "great", but 9.0?! Thats crazy. There are plenty of film I think are better.
