I wonder who the Farelly brothers originally wanted for Irene, they certainly didnt write the role for her. There's one line that makes me think this and has always bothered me.
Hank: "That's when you got a boob job, started hanging around the upper east side looking for a rich old man with a bum ticker."
Irene: "And these, believe it or not, are mine"
She's flat as hell so the line made absolutely NO sense

On the other hand, you could say that the line from Charlie about how she always looks like she just ate a lemon fits Zellweger perfectly.
Just watched the film just now. I thought this too.
