spoiler and question, last PAT CHAPPEL episodes.

SPOLIER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

I have just watch the whole of the fifth series on DVD.
I had seen them all before of course but watching the episode HOOKED a awful question came to my mind.

Is there a hint that Chappel took adavantage of CHERYL when she was at the cottage, and is this why he wants to punish himself by giving Joe the evidence of him killing Cheryl's rapist.
I mean as an experienced policeman do you not think he could have killed the guy without getting caught?

A very moving episode in any case.
The writing and acting in THE VICE was so good,it does not have to be American to be good tv you know.

reply

I always thought it was just that what happened to Cheryl finally pushed him over the edge. That ep is brilliant and Ken Stott is fantastic.

reply

Thanks for answering so quickly.
So it was only Vickers suggesting that Cheryl was not safe that made me feel that Chappel had done something wrong with her.

reply

I think Vickers would do whatever he could to make Pat look bad. He would try to turn Cheryl against Pat if he could.

reply

I never thought he took advantage of her, I think he loved her though and that was why he killed her rapist.

I'm only going to say this once: stay out of Camberwick Green - Sam Tyler

reply

He killed Cheryl's rapist (Price) because the rape, and the subsequent video of the rape, both came about as a direct result of Pat's idiotic suggestion that he should make "stronger" videos.

Pat, therefore, felt guilty.

And rightly so.

reply

Pat felt he deserved to be in prison, I think. Which is kind of interesting as this is what was supposed to happen to Stott's character in 'Messiah', though of course the ending of that show was changed to allow a sequel.

reply

Oh lord. Hope he doesn't end up in prison with that unbelievably evil psycho Pat outted in the episode where the guard was bringing women in to have sex with the men in his block!!

Yikes.

reply

Cant believe he will go to prison. Im expecting a plot twist whereby Chappell was working under under cover in order to expose someone elses wrongdoing. But then again Im reading one of Ian Rankins' Rebus at the moment and Ken Stotts' characters always seem to emerge triumphant.

reply

Actually, I just realised that there is no plot to unfold and that last episode was Ken Stott saying goodbye to the Vice. Big disappointment and it wont be the same without him. Probably why this was the last series..

reply

The re-runs of the vice come to an end this Wednesday. So can ITV3 programme planners please give us some more Ken Stott and repeat the Messiah?

reply

I fear it's unlikely since Messiah was a BBC show... though it may show up one of the other non-ITV-brand digital channels that repeats drama from all over the place.

Curiously, I recently rewatched Messiah V - not a patch on any of what had gone before, of course, but there's an amusing circularity in Stott's character being replaced by Marc Warren.

reply

Ah silly me. Feel a bit cheated that I missed a lot of his earlier stuff, when he was doing it I was doing other stuff myself. Vaguely remember 'taking over the asylum' and enjoyed that. I think he is an excellent actor, could watch him all day.
