Why is it everytime an episode shows promise, they screw it up by introducing some crappy side story with Brian?

I agree. Although Quagmire doesn't seem like he's so much the sex clown as he seems really angry and hateful now.

Honestly, the best thing about this season so far is that they've actually kept Brian likable.

I also notice that they've been giving Brian and Stewie a lot of pointless, uninteresting stories lately.

Well, it was Frank Sinatra Jr's final episode before he died. Other than that, pretty forgettable side plot. Almost exactly like when Brian and Frank Sinatra Jr opened up a big bopper club and it failed too.

Trusting someone...means relying on them and only the weak do that.
