What's the deal with Meg, her whole family hates and treats her like crap. What's up with that crap

Dude it's a cartoon,besides the writers said initially they had no idea what to do with her in couple interviews awhile back.

It didn't start out like that. Go watch seasons 1-3. It's very different.

The show was cancelled briefly after season 3. From 4 onwards meg becomes a running gag, mostly due to conflicts with Mila Kunis's schedule. They don't need a voice actor to be there to use their character, so most of the time she has no lines because she didn't work that episode... so they use Meg for a gag or something non speaking.

It's not unusual for a cartoon character to become a running gag with next to no lines. Look at South Park and Kenny.
