Chris is only 14 & pretty stupid, he could easily still need supervision if Meg didn't want to be in charge but I don't recall them ever getting for him either, plus, would Peter & Lois think that highly of Meg to put her in charge? Early Lois & Peter did but not today's.

I watching a few episodes last season and Carter was watching them, when Peter and Lois were out.

Oh yeah I forgot about that one, but it was established Meg doesn't want to be in charge when Peter & Lois are gone so what else are they supposed to do for Stewie & possibly Chris, besides there is a difference between hiring a babysitter & having your grandparent watch over you and he's there more for Stewie than Meg or Chris.
I agree realistically even within the fluid continuity of the show, they can be left alone. They proved that with the episode where Meg & Chris switched places with Lois & Peter but as it usually does, things go back to the status quo at the start of a new episode.
Do you think the writers get rid of the status quo?
