What did his father do when Seth broke it?

But think Dad might have smack him when crying and told him to man up sort of thing??
Dad said something like : What was I was supposed to do ... you were hysterical. So I interpreted somehow harshly intimidated Seth into not crying. Maybe a stern shake or a smack but certainly not a warm fatherly nurturing.
