PG-13?!

Do you know how many R-rated indie/foreign films I've seen that are less graphic than this?

There was little blood, no gore, mild language, and even the sex scene was nothing really. Why should it be rated R?

reply

I'm somebody whose favorite movies are often R-rated so the content in Minority Report didn't actually bother me nor strike me as "nobody under 18 should see this" material. What bothers me is the MPAA's hypocrisy and lack of consistency. There are always two examples in my mind that come up: Dancer in the Dark and the US cut of Kung-Fu Hustle. Both are rated R, both are less explicit than this movie. So I guess that makes MR the rule rather than the exception, but still.

Have you had a chance to see This Film is Not Yet Rated? After watching that, the whole process of ratings has become completely arbitrary to me. Futile.

reply

That sandwich and milk scene alone was an R rating. ;-)

In the UK, it's rated 12, which is the equivalent of the US' PG-13, but it should really be a 15, which is the next one up (Gladiator, Braveheart and Pan's Labyrinth are all 15). Gore was minimal but those bloody eyeballs?! Not to mention the general dark tone of the film and the mention of child murder (I know it was a setup, but still!). 12 and PG-13 films are usually suitable for family viewing but I sure as hell wouldn't let young kids watch this!

I am tired. I am...............DEAF!
