A fair African American coming of age film?

Do you think this film is a good/fair coming of age film for African Americans? Or do you think that it is hindered by the fact that a young black boy (soon to be man) is saved from the projects by an educated white man?

What are then the fairest coming of age films for African Americans?

reply

Did you watch the movie?! He wasn't SAVED from the projects, rather the Sean Connery character taught him about literature and his talent at writing. Walllace was already a more than capable basketball player who had a future.

reply

If anything, Forrester was saved by Jamal.

This.

It was more about old man/young man; one being guided in love of literature/writings and the other was helped to confront his pain/fear.

I would qualify this as a good coming of age film for any Americans.

and Scottish people
