soup question
Anybody else not understand what a soup question is supposed to be?
shareA "soup question" is one asked where the answer is useful to the asker, not a rhetorical question, or one asked just to make idle conversation.

In the beginning of the movie, Jamal asks William a cooking (soup) question followed by a more personal one... don't remember what the specific personal question was. William then makes a comment like "let's stick to soup questions" meaning questions that aren't overall personal or in depth.

Jamal asks Comnery does he ever go outside ( Sean was bird watching through a window)
The Soup question Jamal asks earlier is why does Sean's soup thicken up, where his mothers didn't. Sean answered him by saying she probably grew up not using milk in her recipe, therefore saving money. Asking why he didn't go outside served no purpose for Jamal
