It wasn't funny in February and it wasn't funny in November.

A very poor Assumption. We know he was a big fan of Milk in his soup. Most milk made since the 1930's is Fortified with Vitamin D (especially in Northern Cities Like New York).

Given his Scottish heritage, it would be easy to believe that he would eat a diet that included seafood like Tuna or Salmon. Being a recluse, canned Tuna would keep well. It's also easy to believe he would eat eggs. Tuna, Salmon and Egg Yolks are all a good source of vitamin D.

And, on the days when he cleaned his windows, 20 minutes of sunlight is all he would need that day to get enough Vitamin D. And don't forget that he used his camcorder to often record Birds in the neighborhood, exposing him to Vitamin D during those adventures too.

But we're all impressed that you found a link between cancer and extremely low levels of vitamin D. Just not that impressed that you forgot all the other ways he probably got vitamin D in his diet.

He may be onto something, you might be too but we will never know. His Vit D levels were never revealed.
