Oscar for Connery - Finding Forrester (2001) Discussion

Totally agree! I'm watching the movie right now, it's been a while since I've seen it, but I thought Connery was great the first time and feel even stronger now! I mean he real got no attention from awards for it and apparently critics too as as no critic nominations either! Really one of his best performances!

Not only should he not be nominated, but his previous Oscar should've been take away and used to bludegon him.

Yes, his performance was very good, but similar performances had already nominations in the past. (Dead Poets Society , Good Will Hunting and some others i guess). Although i agree to the OP coz it's my favorite film. :P

Sean a lot of times has the tendency to act the same way for many of his roles. This is one of the few times that he didn't. I thought his acting was fantastic in this particular movie but I think it could be argued either way that whether or not it was oscar worthy.

Who should have been bumped from this list?

Benicio del Toro - Traffic as Javier Rodríguez Rodríguez
Jeff Bridges - The Contender as President Jackson Evans
Willem Dafoe - Shadow of the Vampire as Max Schreck
Albert Finney - Erin Brockovich as Edward L. Masry
Joaquin Phoenix - Gladiator as Commodus

I think all five were better than Sean Connery in Finding Forrester.

Well Connery should have said NO to this mediocre film
and accepted at least one of MANY classic scripts that were
handed out to him like free candy! In that period of time he got
the part of Morpheus in Matrix(1999) and Gandalf in The
Lord of the Rings(2001).

As Caine stated:"if he just put his ego aside and start beginning
to take supporting roles instead of waiting for the big leading man
parts!".

A silent guardian, a watchful protector.. A Dark Knight!

Yeah I agree. I honestly can't believe this didn't get nominated for anything. It was completely snubbed.

Definitely an Oscar-worthy performance! I also thought F. Murray Abraham's performance was masterful - someone I loved to hate.

Yes definitely he should have gotten a nomination at least. One of his very best films.
