Sprinkler?? when Miles is robbing the vault

When Miles is stealing the diamond at the beginning of the movie and he discovers that the guard has discovered him, he puts his lighter to something that looks like a sprinkler, but a gas comes out of it. Now if that was really a sprinkler than water should have come out of it. I got the impression that it was a poisonous gas (b/c Miles put on a his gas mask before putting his lighter to it) that was put in place as a security messure to debilitate those who were trying to rob the vault. What do you think that that "sprinkler" is? Do you think it is a type of fire supression system or a type of security measure?

In bank vaults they don't use water to get rid of fires (cause handling wet money is not fun). Usually, the air is just removed from the vault or the vault is filled with a noncombustible gas. Doesn't have to do with security.

of course they don't use water, water would be too much trouble to clean up. The gas that comes out is called Halon it is referred to as th halon system and it removes the air from the room which is why he puts on the gas mask

it is a haylon system that are used for putting out fires. usally on vessels
