Doesnt make much sense..

I was watching the movie the other night and something didnt really add up in my mind. I am the only one who thinks that if a 50K$ Diamond was stolen, they would at least TRY TO LOOK FOR IT OR ASK ONE OF THE ROBBERS WHAT THEY DID WITH IT??? As it is, nobody cared, as long as Martin Lawrence's character went to jail, that was the end of the story.. He could have been at least questionned and tell them that another one of his "partner" had it, but none of this happens.. it's like it's unimportant

Maybe I'm looking too much into things, but I highly doubt they would just "forget" about it as long as they catched the crooks.. to me it shows if the script was just scratched in 5 minutes on the corner of a table or if there was time and attention put into it..

Yeah, and you seriously think they would just let him go before they find it?

Cop - So, where did you hide it?
robber- I dont'd remember
Cop - Ok, you're free to go

come on man..

My guess is that he would have just told them that the guy who got away had double crossed them and he had it

He could tell all sorts of things, from "the other guys had it" down to "I must have lost it while running away".
Sure, it may be obvious that he is lying but what can they do? They can search for it, but it's a small thing and he could have hidden it in a thousand of places.

What bugged me more: The ending. So, he has this valueable diamond and is in Mexico where the feds can't bust him. But he has literally nothing else besides the clothes he is wearing and a gun (with a few rounds in it). So, what does he do with it? He'll need cash, and fast. He can't pay a motel room or even a burrito with a diamond - needs to sell it asap. But he has no connections there. Any attempt to sell it to crooks will most likely end in him getting beaten up and losing the diamond without getting any money. Best bet would probably be to find a pawn shop, but that way he will only get a fraction of what the diamond is worth and he still risks getting either the mob or mexican police on his trail (pawn shops will report anything valuable that looks stolen to the police or -assuming they are corrupt- to local gansters).
It's also unresolved what happens to his annoying friend.

Or he could just call Uncle Lou or someone else in the states to come down and help him/cut them back in on the diamond
