Nothing closer to the truth
I'm from Wisconsin so I rented this on a whim a couple years ago just to see it and I was amazed how good it was. Hysterical, touching & inspiring. It's rare that a movie like this comes along and sweeps so many people off their feet. Needless to say, I fell in love with the movie and the entire cast of colorful characters. And I felt especially close to the film being from the same area. Well, I happened get a job in Menomonee Falls within the last year and met someone who knows Borchardt. He saw my excitement, though he thinks Borchardt's a bum, and got me a part in his latest movie as an extra last summer. It was f#&$ng hysterical. We filmed a death scene from his latest ongoing, neverending project, "Scare Me." Saw everyone there from the movie - Mike was out in the back smoking (didn't talk to anyone), his mom was doing the lighting, it was at Ken Keen's house (that guy is tiny), his kids were lugging equipment around and having us sign releases (my how they've grown), and of course there was Borchardt himself, who everybody was watching and I got to small talk with (it was great when his wife was combing his mullet in between takes). It was just like the making of Coven though - a million things went wrong: it's like 100 degrees and everybody's sweating inside this non-air conditioned house in the summer heat, extras showing up and than later disappearing, things breaking/not working, etc.
I can't tell you how excited I was at just the prospect of being in a Mark Borchardt movie. I had been telling everybody about American Movie for years. Like a dream come true - in a way I 'spose. In certain circles, I am quite popular:) Well, I just thought some people might find it interesting to read about my experience, hope nobody minds. I just hope he actually finishes this movie so I can look for myself and add 'film actor' to my resume.
