Great creepy movie

I seen this movie 3 years ago, and it was pretty creepy. It's a kind of supernatural zombie movie. A woman is the "sole survivor" of a plane crash and is haunted by the dead passengers, then other dead people start coming back to life.

I read in a film guide that it is a remake of a british movie, called "The Survivor" starring Jenny Argutter. I hope to try and track the original down and watch it.

Probably too late considering how long ago you posted but the film with Robert Powell and Jenny Agutter that you speak of is currently on BBC1...!! :)

Yeah man, I brought "The Survivor" on DVD about 2 weeks ago but I thought it wasn't as good as "Sole Survivor" which was a kind of remake.

It's funny what they say about remakes being lame, but "Sole Survivor" is quite a good remake.

Thanks for the reply, I wish more people would post on this board.

Non worries :)

I do remember seeing Sole Survivor in the late eighties/early nineties and I really enjoyed it! If I recall, the effects are (as it was the 80's!!) relatively basic by today's standards but the film carried itself along pretty well and I think that I found it really interesting. Not seen it since though.... :(

I can't recall a telephone scene, of course it was 3 or 4 years ago I seen Sole Survivor.

Cheers.

Hmmm, I think that a repeat viewing is in order if I can track it down! :)

This is an old thread but I'll respond...

Yes, there was a telephone scene near the beginning. 'Karla Davis' calls an ad agent early in the morning and wakes him up. She asks him if 'Denise' was taking a flight that day as she had a vision of a plane crash and 'Denise' being the sole survivor.

There is another 'telephone scene' in which 'Brian' (the doctor) calls 'Denise' to check up on her after the crash. She also asks him out in a roundabout way. :)

I was really spooked by this - I had to pause the DVD to get myself together! I was surprised that what I had expected to be a slightly flat genre effort turned out to be an eerie little masterpiece with a couple of excellent jump scares and some genuine suspense!

I thought this film was very eerie and unnerving. Writer/director Thom Eberhardt did an excellent job of effectively grounding the fantastic premise in a credibly rendered everyday mundane reality. Moreover, Anita Skinner gave a fine and sympathetic performance in the lead, with sturdy support from Kurt Johnson, Caren Larkey, and Robin Davidson. And the nightmarish last third is genuinely harrowing.

If you're looking for this on DVD - Netflix has it.

Great concept, and Hollywood has made sure to rip it off with out acknowledging the source with at least two different films , one of which became a hugely successful franchise.

Yes. I am sure of it.

If you're going to talk about rip-offs/inspirations/homages etc., it would be wise to acknowledge the influence of stuff like Carnival of Souls and The Survivor ('81) on this film 

It was a surprisingly good film with a genuine atmosphere of dread and some imaginative art direction. The performances could have been better, but for a relatively unknown cast, this was a decent effort. 7/10 stars from me.
