So Marion was really a man, but lived her life as a woman?
At the end didn't she say how hard it was to keep this from her mom?
Well surely her mom knew that she gave birth to a son and not a daughter...did I miss something or did I misunderstand something?
I think as her Mother went more senile, she must have blocked this out and believed the situation that Marion created.

She may have longed for a daughter and helped Marion with her subterfuge. And to maintain the upper hand accused Marion of entertaining men. The film is called 'Unhinged' so it's dealing with a person or persons with a sick state of mind.
