quick question
Why was Ariel in the beginning of the movie before Hannah went through the door? She passed him and they were looking at each other while she was on her way to her Aunt Eva's house. That was the only part I didn't understand.

Hannah's experience of this whole event is not so much a "taken back to the past" as an experience of a previous life Hannah lived - that of Chava who did die in the camps. And the boy she sees before that experience is connected to her through the past life. I got the sense that had they been in different circumstances they would have become involved. So when she passes the guy, something in her connects to the guy and he to her. They just might not realize it yet.
