Was looking foward to watching this even bought the 2nd film at the same time and what a disappointment, I hope the second one will be better... but I doubt it.

A Superman without trunks isn't worth watching or reading about.
I prefer this version. I find the American one deviates too far from the novel and really messed things up by switching the setting to America. It's also overproduced. This one has a quiet subtlety to it that's far more in tune with the novel. No horses going crazy and jumping off ferries.
shareI was genuinely surprised by how little there was to this film, considering its reputation as a horror classic. The American version is worse because it's basically just a bunch of standard American horror cliches stapled over the original form.
The scene of the spirit coming through the screen--are you kidding me? That's the finale? Buster Keaton was doing that effect in the 1920s!
