where was she originally from brighton england or portsmouth, i havn't found the book yet but i want to. the pier in brighton looked very similar to brighton in melbourne australia in a way, i guess thats why they called it that.

The character Fanny Price is from Portsmouth.

Um, remember that England was around and named first. Most of the places in Australia (like in America) were named after the English places, either because of a resemblance or because of where the settlers came from.
