Storyline Based on Superior Moral Judgement Doesn't Work
The whole premise of the movie is that Fanny has unfailing moral judgement. Yet after the sketchbook scene, when she learns just what depths of depravity fund her lifestyle with her cousins, she continues to live off that income. And the film cheerfully ends with Fanny's uncle changing his pursuits to tobacco - which doubtless would only continue the depravity. The way this is glossed over in the film is actually rather revolting. Completely undermining the whole premise of the film.
