Im glad its different from the book

Fanny has many characteristics that make her likable but many more that make her unlikable.

Movie Fanny is a lot more confident, and better example for young women.

Im probably in minority, but in this instance, i prefer the movie over book.

What makes book Fanny a bad example for young women? She's got excellent judgment, a backbone of steel, a sense of humour and has taken the trouble to educate herself above and beyong what her guardians offered her. A girl could do a lot worse than act like that!

I agree. I have a lot of admiration for Fanny Price.

I really like Fanny in the movie.

I like both the Fanny Price of the book and the Fanny Price of the movie, and I think that both, in their different ways, are positive examples for young women. But one thing that got on my nerves about Fanny in the book was her fragility - it's been awhile since I've read it, but I remember her getting headaches at the least little exertion and Edmund mollycoddling her all the time. When I first watched this adaptation I strongly disliked it, partly because I felt Fanny seemed like one of those cardboard cut-out "strong, independent woman" heroines, but it's now a favorite of mine, partly because of the changes to the characters.

Speaking as someone who gets horrible, screaming migraines at the drop of a hat, I have to say that when one is in excruciating pain, a little mollycoddling is not out of the question. At least I have Demerol; I hate to imagine having a migraine at that point in history, when the only options were opium, laudanum, or drinking until you passed out. I sure hope my husband and friends don't dislike me because of them!

I'm glad that it's different from the book. Movie producers can't always follow the book directly and probably don't want to. They like to put their own stamp on them.

I always think, if something is going to be exactly the same as the book, why bother making them?

I know I'm gonna come under fire for this, but it's my opinion.
