Laugh Track?

I was thinking of buying this but I was wondering if there was a laugh track in it? They really piss me off.

i agree, big train would have been a lot better if they had left the laugh track out.....but its still a funny show

I once punched a guy out for saying that "Hawk the Slayer" was rubbish

Maybe its all subliminal. Wouldn't have thought they added it just as a matter of course. Some big time writer/producer/director may be able to add the importance of adding laugh tracks.

Gonna start talking crap now but here's my theory.

It's like yawning. It's a known fact that a group of people if, say, sat round a table and one of them yawns you'll find maybe one or two others will start to yawn also. Saw it on a discovery channel doc.
Maybe its similar to laughter.
If loads of people start laughing at something others will follow. I was at work one time and some guy told a joke and we started laughing at the punchline and there was this young nipper with us and he started laughing too. I looked at him and said "you don't know what your laughing at do you?" He smirked and said "no. not really"

I would distinguish a laugh track from a live studio audience.

A laugh track, IMO, is when an editor and/or director decide to grab an effects disc and add pre-recorded laughs where they personally feel they are needed. Sometimes it works, mostly it doesn't.

However, when you screen the sketches to a studio audience and record their oral reactions - later mixing it in with the rest of the audio - I deem it to be different from a laugh track. Whilst it is different from filming sketches in front of the audience - which in itself produces a whole different dynamic, and not necessarily a better or worse one - it can work quite well, as I feel it does in Big Train.

The sketches I didn't feel were funny, but which the audience does by their reaction, I seem to able to not laugh at; and vice-versa.

This can also be applied to Red Dwarf seasons 7 & 8, which differed from 1-6 in that they included the audience response, but not from a live sketch recording.
