Open ending

All in all I really like open endings, but in this case it left a rather unsatisfying void.
You cannot figure out whether the girl was raped or only made up the story to pay him back.
I wonder if they should have offered a solution; like was he convicted or acquitted.

Yeah, great,
know I need somebody to translate this...

" I believe that it was good that they left the ending open. As a spectator, we are used to movies that lead us where they want, this time, we are left, in the end, to interpret who is lying Sara or Michael.
But I don't believe that it was central to the plot, more of an excuse to end the movie. It is the unleashed pasion of these adults that have it all and how they carry themselves as if there is no tomorrow. "

I'm the kind of person that dislikes some open endings, this being one of them. It completely screws up the whole movie if the ending is lame. I think the movie lead up to the possible date rape night and then they built the anticipation of the outcome so much..and then it ended. Ron Livingston cracked me up, very funny. I enjoyed what the characters said when talking directly to the camera also.

if not now, when?

You can hear the radio in the background at the end saying that the trial resulted in a hung jury.

The whole point of the movie was that neither of them knew what happend exactly. You cant have an ending either way.

reply

The movie cleared it up - there was a radio clip playing that said it was a hung jury due to lack of evidence.

To you and heather blus, 'hung jury' means neither side won -- no majority could be reached by the jury. That means there is no answer, aka an open ending. Duh.

There can be another trial held after a hung jury verdict. The movie-makers chose to end it without a verdict.

reply

Yeah, I know what a hung jury is, thanks. I especially appreciate the holier-than-thou sarcasm, always super necessary.

To mnbush.

That wasn't the question.

The question was whether he was convicted or not. He wasn't due to a hung jury.

Please learn to read properly, thank you.

Life lesson: take responsibilty for yourself and don't get so fall down drunk that you black out, male or female

I think this was done on purpose..to illustrate the unsatisfying void that this sort of lifestyle brings. Just like the film, it's really fun in the beginning but eventually it all catches up with you.

It's not an open ending in regards to the case, it's a hung jury.

It's an open ending for Rick and Jane.
