...was how easily Brandon and Lana were able to be together. When he first kissed her, I thought, "Oh no, now if Tom finds out, he's going to be angry for cheating on him", but then once she and Brandon are officially dating, Tom is just okay with it. I mean, talk about Mr. Steal Yo Girl. They just skipped her breaking up with Tom and going straight to the aftermath. Unless Lana and Tom weren't actually together, together? But he always talked about her like they were...

I might be wrong, but Tom was married.

Or do you mean John. John was in love/obsession with her and were once an item, but they had broken up.

You have to mean John. Are you really paying attention to the movie if you can't tell the names apart? John was the one that was obsessed with Lana. But no, they were not a couple at the time Lana and Brandon met which is kind of obvious.
