the ending........(spoi lers)

Did anyone else feel really distraught and cheated after watching the ending to this series?

I mean, they were fighting all these villians and training for mortal kombat all this time, then out of nowhere in about 2 minutes, shao kahn kills them all and makes Raiden his slave!

Another thing, if this is meant to be a prequel to the movies, all the continuity is wrong. And in the stories of the MK games, Kung Lao's death was meant to be at the hands of Goro in the next tournament.

Does anyone know if they had another ending, and they just threw this one together in a few seconds when they found out they weren't coming back for another season? That's the impression I got with this, but otherwise, this ending made me feel a bit cheated after watching the whole series I just bought on dvd. It was a good show too in the later episodes, then that happened. very strange.

Anyway, if anyone has any idea if they had other plans for an ending and didn't use them due to the series ending, let me know.

The season finale, "Vengeance," was just a cliffhanger, just like every other show has a cliffhanger at the end of the season. Yes, the producers were fully expecting to come back for another season. However, the show got cancelled due to distribution costs. As was stated on the official MK website, the show got great ratings, better than any of the studios involved expected it to. So of course, a second season was in development. In the end, greed from money-hungry executives destroyed the show. See, Warner Brothers owned the broadcast distribution rights, while TNT owned cable and sattelite distribution rights. So when they saw how successful the first season was, when it came time to negotiate distribution costs for season 2, no agreement could be met. Since they could not agree on who would get a bigger piece of the pie, New Line Cinema, who owned the show, decided to cancel altogether. The folks at Threshold Entertainment (who actaully produced the show) tried to get the show brought back, and released on dvd (which it still has not been here in the U.S.), but to no avail.
As for story elements, it was explained that season 2 would begin with Rayden locked up in Kahn's dungeon, praying to the Elder Gods, asking why they allowed this to happen. The Elder Gods then come forth and reverse everything Shao Kahn had done in the last episode. They would bring everyone back to life and return them to their homes. Thus, the show would be able to continue normally. It was also revealed that if the show had reached a final episode, it was always intended that Kung Lao would die at the hands of Goro in the next tournament, just as the games and movies stories dictate.

that's what i thought would happen if they started season 2! Those moronic producers always find a way of ruining something for the fans, don't they?

Its such a shame i didn't go ahead, it would have been great. As for ratings, I'm also suprised it went well in america. Over here in Australia they started the show in 2001 and straight away put it in a 2am timeslot, which was crap since i didn't own a video player at the time and was working the next day usually, so I think i ever only watched the first episode on tv, and just finished watching the whole thing on the dvds i bought.
I wish it would come back, even though it could be difficult to get the actors back, particularly kristtina Loken or whatever her name is (the chick who plays taja). she's pretty much a bigger celeb now so she probably wouldn't come back. It would be cool if they tied all the loose ends up by making another series that goes straight to dvd or telemovie which ends with kung lao facing goro.

I personally think that it would have been a crappy idea to kill everyone, then have the gods undo it. At the very least, I'd have had it be that they survived & Kahn was just F-ing with Rayden's mind by playing games & lieing.

i felt cheated as well! I mean, you watch a television show, you grow to actually root for the characters.. then poof! They're all dead? I mean, wtf? On one hand, i think it's soo mesed up, but on the other hand, in a morbidly refreshing way, i accepted the end. I know kung lao was supposed to die by goro's hand, but fof those who know nothing of the game storyline, it barely passes for a full circle ending... thus the story was basically.. mankind trains to protect earthrealm.... man fails.... life goes on. While i know that was not the way it was supposed to be.. it's sort of an interesting message. No matter how hard humanity tries.. we are weak.

Personally if it were me and i could be wrong...but note the fact that you never ever see anyone die! Sure you given the impression that they are dead, but are they really...did anyone see a single shadow priest actually finish anybody?
Most of the final episode is through the persective of Raiden . Kahn enslaves him and proves their supposed deaths...

Simple...

Rayden is Kahns bitch...where does all of Kahns bitches go...The cobalt mines...right along with the rest of the gang...except for the Champion...now the champion mister Lao has a very interesting and actionable position..."Work for me...Lao" good god wouldn't it rock if Lao pulled a Luke Skywalker in Dark Jedi and make the appearance of turning to the ways of the Emperor (and when you think about it...Emperor!!! heh i'd say star wars might have had a slight barring on the story that boon and tobias wrote years ago)

to make it even better...every Emperor needs a sorcerer..why not embarass him even further by putting him under Lao's command...lots of great fight opportunities there, best yet since Lao apparently defected they can kick the *beep* out of each other now!

You pass about a year in the mines so everyone is good and hopeless...now the mines have a hundred levels...might make it real easy to convince anyone even a god that all he has worked for is lost. But with the resilence and resourcefulness of siro and taja i'd say it would be real easy for them all to find eachother with enough time..and start ploting a little insurrection..

Give Lao contact to Kitana who is playing the nice little daughter outside but is keeping him informed of where his friends are as he works on a way to free them.

As for earth relm wouldn't it be real interesting if we added say another god an d a rebel fighting force...I seem to recall there being a wind god, yeah thats right rip Fujin from MK4 and give him a small band of hapless fighters of his own that are the only thing keep earth relm from truly being lost. Hell they could help with the search for the missing Thunder god Raiden!!!

The elder gods...since when did they ever do their jobs anyways! Thats how I'd write the begining to season two...and Ed Boon would have wanted it that way lol
I think that would make things alot more interesting!!! Might have even kept new line from throwing this great show out the window!!!

There are many ways people can justify the continuity concerning Kung Lao at the end of Conquest. Sure, they could have just written a new way to kill him off, but one fact remains that blunders the continuity...

Shang Tsung

Shang Tsung is ALIVE AND WELL 500 years later when Liu Kang fights for the Earth Realm (and is ultimately dispatched by him), yet he is bumped off along with Kung Lao, Vorpax and everyone else.

A lot of people have told me they hated this show, but I really loved it and had high hopes to see it return. Unfortunately it's a little late to have any hope to see it make a comeback after being cancelled almost a decade ago.

I really wish that the U.S. would have this DVD set of Mortal Kombat Conquest. I haven't watched all of the episodes unfortunately, and if a DVD set were to come in the U.S., I would definitely get it and not only reminisce the episodes but come to a better understanding of the storyline.
