Is this movie based on a book? If so, does anyone know the name of the book and the author?
shareNo, I don't believe that this film was based on a book. The actual fibre of the plot may have been borrowed from the short novel that Bozz is reading near the beginning of the movie. That book is "Johnny Got His Gun", written by Dalton Trumbo. The book is not about the Vietnam war or anything of that sort, but the stories are similar in that they perpetuate the idea of the futile and inhuman nature of war. I don't know if that is really helpful, but I hope it might be!
p.s. Johnny Got His Gun is an amazing book! Everyone should read this at least once in their life. It is beautifully horrifying and accurate. Possibly the best-captured image of war in all of literature.
